What is AP Mid?
There are five main roles in League of Legends: jungle, top, AD carry. support, and AP carry. The AP carry is the AP Mid of the game. Your job is to rip people's face off with your burst damage, mainly the other team's AP and AD carry first, since they are the squishiest. What you do is build a lot of ability power so you can insta-gib one of the carries on the enemy team.
Top 3 Mechanics You Must Have
Farming.
- Okay, so this is the most obvious one. You NEED to know how to farm! Its just one of the basic mechanics you need to master to not only improve as an AP mid, but as a player overall. The chart on the side depicts the number of minions spawned in respect to time that has passed. You should aim for at least 10 minions per minute. You have to focus and strive to perfect this until its second nature.
- If you can do this, you’ll reach your maximum farm potential and earn your minion farming certificate. Focus on last hitting every minion because missing a cs makes Raina sad. We don’t want Raina sad do we?
Harassing.
- This is the part where you get to use your manly runes full of AP to punish kids for coming too close to you or have bad positioning. The most common time to harass is when your enemy comes up to last hit. It's pretty obvious when they're going to do it -watch the health on your minions and when its low, you know the enemy is going to come up to last hit The split second they stop to auto attack, that is when you try to use an ability on them to get some damage off.
- Sometimes the hard part here is, what if you're against a sustain lane, a mana-less user, or a person who starts off with 13 pots. If you're mana-less, it doesn't really matter, you get the advantage of harassing the opponent down. If it's a sustain lane, then just focus on csing to get your items, unless you can burst them down in one shot. If it's someone with 13 pots, its the same concept as a sustain lane, either farm or one shot them.
Capabilities.
- This mechanic comes from experience and playing a lot of games, so don't be depressed if you don't get this right away. Knowing your champion will allow you to trade damage in lane is knowing when to go in, and knowing who will come out taking less damage. It takes time to acquire this skill because it takes personal experience to learn the damage output for every champion. I mean, I can give you the numbers, but it wouldn't really matter until you experienced it yourself; otherwise you'd end up going "WTH SO MUCH DAMAGE. NERF PLS."
- Here's an example, some champions are annoying because they have a shield, like Viktor. Viktor's early game is pretty annoying, his Q isn't a skill-shot so its a guaranteed hit on you and a shield on him. Unless you can trade back more damage than his Q, his auto-attacks, and break his shield all at once WHILE taking minion aggro, don't do it. Wait until his shield breaks, knowing his Q is on cool-down, then throw some damage out at him if possible.
- Another thing you should know about the capabilities of each champion is that it's easy to trade against people whose abilities are skill-shots. This is where you learn to constantly move, there should be no reason to ever stop moving. If you're against a Lux, don't walk in a straight-line...zig-zag. When you're fighting against her with someone like Orianna, Q-W her but don't stand in one place to auto attack. Walk --> then auto attack, then walk <--- and auto attack again. You're not the AD carry so you wouldn't be missing out on any auto attacks if you walk in between them. This way, you're benefit a lot more while fighting against a Lux; if she can't land any skills, you won't take any damage from her skills, on top of that, Orianna's auto attacks are a lot stronger than any other AP Mids, so you just totally dominated that trade there.
